Rosemary Johnson (Ellis)

Rosemary Johnson (Ellis)

From Mary Mac Gittinger:  Rosemary had an adventourous spirit! Just good hearted fun! She enjoyed running, hiking, and swimming. She discovered a natural love of horses and became a professional rider, jumper, and trainer. The last 15 or so years of her life she owned and ran a horse ranch at the top of Hespertus, CO. Rosemary worked her way up from a small government job to a secret service level professional and flew to different countries on several missions. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends when she came to visit in San Antonio. She had a huge, generous heart and will be greatly missed!

From her Durango, Colorado, obituary:

Rosemary Ellis, 65 long time resident of Durango, Colorado went to heaven December 29, 2018 surrounded by family. Rosemary was born in San Antonio, Texas the second of four daughters of Jesse Thomas Johnson and Louise Johnson. Rosemary and Salonie (her Arabian mare) were Champion Competitive Trail winners possessing many first place ribbons. Rosemary's passion was riding 15-40 miles per day in the beautiful San Juan National Forest including the Weminuche Wilderness, which surrounds Durango, Colorado. Rosemary was very active in animal rescue, she rescued cats and dogs that had been abused and neglected, and she rescued an adorable dog just two months before she passed away. Rosemary was also very career driven, She was a computer hardware engineer, systems administrator and computer support specialist, retiring from The Federal government from a top level supervisory position. Rosemary is survived by two daughters, Layla Dooley and Lindsey Hansen, four grand children, her mother 95 years young, and three sisters, Linda Johnson, Betty Kilby, and Margaret Hempstead. Some of us want a new house, or a new car, but someone battling cancer wants one thing, to win the battle. In honor of Rosemary who lost the battle on Earth. Rosemary was a twenty one year survivor of breast cancer. God stopped her suffering and wiped away every tear, healed her and took her home. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love Never Fails. Services are pending at this time.

I met Rosemary in Miss Flood's seventh grade art class at Garner.  We shared an art table.  She was a sweet girl who loved to design and draw fashion.  It was good to hear that she found her life's passion in horses and was able to pursue it.
