The New Mac campus

Has anyone been inside or toured the new campus?  If so, I would love to hear about it!  Was I shocked the first time I drove by and saw it.  I nearly ran off the road!  They've encased our school with walls!  No, wait a minute.  They leveled it and built a new one!

A number of years ago Ken Pearce ('69) arranged a tour early one Saturday morning.  The logistics were too difficult for me to make it.  There is supposed to be a "Hall of Honor" with a display of stuff from our era:  Lassies jackets, footballs, trophys, etc.

Reports, please, if you have been in the new Mac!

Two comments:  Yes - They're leveled it.  Whereas I understand the need to build giant schools on existing ground - it is upsetting  there is a lack of sensitivity as these schools are "upgraded".. Cruise the district and you'll see the same thing is occurring at the other schools as well.  Incidentally, Garner is listed in the proposed NEISD bond referendum - which is no longer slated for May, potentially to show up for November.  At Co69 website, there are images of the old schools and  it is recommended that folks go see Garner before it gets "improved".  Second - If you go to Mac and walk in to the office, they will gladly host you to the "Memory Lane" project.  There is also an info page on the Co69 site.  Memory Lane is indeed quite a project and worth a look.  Chester (Co69)...

Well, we did it!  Thanks to the arrangements of Marilyn Dyer Jones, a group of us met and toured the new Mac at 10:00 a.m. on October 1.  It was well worth it.  There were about 12-15 of us in the group.  The school is built as a "quandrangle".  Did anyone else know that there were two natural springs on the property?  One was by the old main entrance where the boys' gym was located, and the other was by the old Field House.  The auditorium and cafeteria are still there, though much changed.  We all wondered if they still serve Mexican Food on Wednesdays.  The football field house is still there.  The dance team has its own studio to practice in!  Most impressive.  We spent a lot of time in the hall of fame.  They have pictures of every graduating class since Mac was born.  They also have a famous Brahmas display.  The only one I knew was Nancy Rumble.  The school was filled with students from all over in some type of speech and debate tournament.  Highlight of the morning:  we were all walking past a group of the young whippersnappers and they were openly staring at the "old folks."  One of the guys in our group shouted out:  "Take a good look!  You're going to be as old as us someday!!"
